Bernice Rose Hall, 78, a longtime Kellogg resident, died Sunday, February 26,
2017, at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester.
Bernice was born October 5, 1938 in Wabasha to John and Louise (Miller) Schmit.
She attended school in Conception and Eyota, MN. On October 19, 1955 she
married Donald Hall in Eyota. While Donald was in the Air Force, they lived in
Wichita Falls, Texas and Tacoma, WA. Following Donald’s discharge in 1960, they
moved to a dairy farm south of Plainview. They sold the farm in 1978 and moved
into Plainview. While living in Plainview, Bernice worked as a cook at Hillcrest
Nursing Home in Plainview and then in 1986 went to work at St. Mary’s Hospital in
Rochester. She also volunteered on the Plainview Ambulance Crew for several
years. In 1991 Bernice and Donald bought a place on the Mississippi River at West
Newton near Kellogg to retire and fish. In 2003 they moved into Kellogg. Donald
Died August 30, 2012. In 2014 Bernice moved to Saint Elizabeth’s Senior Housing
in Wabasha and then moved to Cottagewood in February 2016. Bernice enjoyed
collecting dolls, gardening, canning and playing cards.
She is survived by her children; Phyllis Baier of Rochester, Judy (Michael) Griffin of
Henderson, Nevada, Marcella (Bruce) Kahn of Plainview, Teresa (Scott) Rollinger
of Kellogg, Donald (Lisa) Hall of Elgin, Thomas Hall of Plainview and Daniel Hall of
Stillwater, MN., 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters;
Lucille Walters of Rochester, Edwin (Wilhemine) Schmit of Kellogg, Walter (Cecile)
of Dover, Margie (Harry) Dessner of Kasson, Rosie Welke of Rochester, Janet
(Allen) Rahrman of Theilman, Patty (Pat) Forhman of St. Charles and John Schmit
of Eyota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 son, John, 1 brother,
Robert Schmit, and 2 sisters, Nancy Schmit and Mary Kreidermacher.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, March 4, 11:00 am, at Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church in Conception with Father Robert Meyer officiating. Burial is at
Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery, Conception. Visitation is Friday, 4-7 pm at Schad &
Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on
Saturday.
