Bessie Ella Nichols, 97, of Rochester and formally of Eyota, died May 6, 2020 at River Bend Assisted Living in Rochester. Bessie was born June 5, 1922 in Fillmore County to Forest and Jessie (King) Higgins. She attended Chester country school. She worked as a housekeeper until 1958 and then at Waters Conley Co. in Rochester until 1966. On April 2, 1966 Bessie married Vernon Nichols at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. They lived in Eyota, MN. They traveled extensively throughout the United States. She was a member of Grace Community Church in Eyota and the Eastern Star. She was active in meals on wheels. Vernon died September 29, 2011. Bessie is survived by 3 daughters; Norma (Larry) Mooney of Rochester, Barbara Molde of Hastings and Linda (Burton) O’Dell of Ponte Vedra, FL; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, 5 sisters and 8 brothers. A private graveside service will be Saturday, May 9th at Oak Grove Cemetery, Eyota, with Pastor Mark Young officiating. Memorials are preferred to Grace Community Church in Eyota. Schad & Zabel Funeral Home, Eyota.
