Betty Ann Smith, 91, of Plainview, died Friday, June 14, 2019 at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born February 15, 1928 in Emmet County, Iowa to Lloyd and Anna (Poscharsky) Dahlke. Betty graduated from Dolliver High School in Iowa. On March 21, 1948 she married Leonard Smith in Emmet County. They farmed in Iowa until moving to Wabasha County in 1960 and in 1969 moved to Plainview where they settled and raised their family. During the sixties Betty worked as a cook at the Idle Hour Restaurant in Wabasha and then in 1969 started her employment in the Physical Therapy department at Mayo Clinic, retiring in 1992. She enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren. Betty was a member of the Plainview Church of Christ and the High Neighbors Club. Her husband Leonard died September 14, 1989. She is survived by her children; Dorothy (Raymond) Leitz of Waterloo, Iowa, Darwin (Genevieve) Smith of Preston, Rebecca (Doug) Nielsen, Debra (Paul) Heins, David (Linda) Smith and Del (Gloria) Smith all of Plainview; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, Arthur and William and 2 sisters, Dorothy and LaVonne. Funeral service is Thursday, June 20, 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Plainview with Pastor Bob Blanshan officiating. Burial is at Greenwood Cemetery, Plainview. Friends may call on Wednesday, 5-7 pm at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Seasons Hospice or Mayo Clinic Hospice.
