Burdette M. Wohlfeil, 102, died Friday, December 13 at Meadow Lakes Senior Living Center in Rochester. Burdette Monroe DeWayne Wohlfeil was born June 30, 1917 on the family farm near Tilden, Nebraska to Otto and Anna (Peterson) Wohlfeil. He was baptized and confirmed at Buffalo Creek Lutheran Church and attended country school through 8th grade. He enjoyed playing baseball as a boy. In 1936, he moved to Northfield, Minnesota where he milked cows for a local farmer. He then moved to Colfax, Washington and worked for two years before being drafted into the army. He served in Hawaii and was honorably discharged in 1945. He moved back to Minnesota and in 1948 purchased a farm near Millville. In 1961 he married Helen Behnken, moved to Eyota and continued farming and raising dairy and beef cattle. Helen passed away on June 26, 2006; Burt moved to Meadow Lakes Senior Living in Rochester later that year and resided there until his death. Burt was always interested in keeping his mind active. He enjoyed putting together puzzles and playing cards. He was an avid reader and Twins fan. He always enjoyed an afternoon nap! He is survived by two sons, Richard (Phyllis) Behnken of Anchorage, AK, Larry (Judy) Behnken of New Brighton, MN; daughter Karen (Erik) Jothen of Apple Valley, MN; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and one sister Irene Knick of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his wife, 2 sisters, 1 brother and 1 grandson. Funeral service is Wednesday, December 18, 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Larry Behnken officiating. Burial is at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester with military graveside rites conducted by the Eyota American Legion. Visitation is Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
