Carole Ann Lovejoy, 78, of Eyota, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, St. Mary’s Campus. Carole was born July 25, 1940 to Marvin and Eunice (Anderson) Richardson in Rochester. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1958 and attended Winona State University where she obtained her teachers certificate. Carole started her teaching career in Owatonna. She married Gerald Lovejoy July 15, 1962 at the Plainview Church of Christ and they resided in Owatonna. They then moved to Rochester where Carole taught for a couple of years. In 1965 they moved to Plainview. While teaching in Plainview, Carole obtained her Masters degree from Winona State. In 1972 the family moved to Eyota and Carole worked as a Unit Assistant, and Unit Assistant Instructor at St. Mary’s Hospital. Carole later taught and retired from Dover Eyota Elementary in 1999, competing a teaching career of 28 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, playing the piano, square dancing, playing cards, traveling and going on church mission trips. During Carole’s retirement, she volunteered at Mayo Clinic. She and Jerry wintered in Arizona for the past 18 years. Carole is survived by her husband Jerry of Eyota; two children, Jayne (Bruce) Rother of Eyota and Kent (Marilyn) Lovejoy of Fort Atkinson, WI; six grandchildren, Ben & Dan Rother of Eyota, Jackie (Brandon) VanGundy of Evans, GA, Matthew, Jenna & Ryan Lovejoy of Fort Atkinson, WI; two great-granddaughters, Rhylie and Sydney VanGundy. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral service is Monday, December 17, 2:00 p.m. at Hope Summit Christian Church in Rochester with Rev. Jeff Matteson and Rev. Ron Wernimont officiating. Burial is at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Eyota. Visitation is Sunday, December 16, 3-5 p.m. at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
