Clarence Bierbaum, 94, of Plainview and formerly of Eyota, died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at St. Isidore Health Center of Greenwood Prairie in Plainview. Clarence Carl Bierbaum was born in Rochester January 5, 1922, the son of Frank and Lydia (Koch) Bierbaum. He was Baptised and Confirmed at St. Paul’s Church, Eyota. He attended Rural School District #44 and Eyota High School, graduating in 1939. On September 26, 1942 he married Ruth E. Dickerman at St. Paul’s Church. This marriage was blessed with five children. Clarence was a life time, 4th generation member of St. Paul’s Church. He served as Secretary of the church council, chairman of two building committees, sang in the church choir for many years and was a member of the church historical committee. His woodworking is evident throughout the church. He also served on the Southern Association Historical Committee, and was a charter member and secretary of Biblical Witness Fellowship of Minnesota. Clarence served in the US Navy during WWII, aboard the USS LST 127, and is an Eyota American Legion member. Clarence and Ruth farmed from 1942 until 1980, when they moved into Eyota. Clarence served on many community and service clubs. He was past president of the Olmsted County Farm Bureau, past board member and president of Farmers Co-op Creamery Association of Eyota and an officer on the Eyota Creamery board for several years. He was past member and president of Eyota Lions Club and a member of the Eyota Economic Development Authority. He was Eyota Citizen of the Year in 1992.  He drove school bus for Dover Eyota School for over 20 years.  Clarence was an Insurance agent from 1964 to 1992 when he retired. During this time he was a board member of Rochester Farmers Mutual Insurance Co., serving as president from 1982 to 1992. He was past president of Greenwood Prairie Burial Association of Plainview and Eyota. Clarence was an avid sports fan and played fast pitch softball in the Rochester City Leagues. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, playing golf and spending time with his family. Ruth died July 24, 2006. On April 12, 2008, Clarence married Elaine Kroening and they made their home in Plainview. Clarence is survived by his children; Russell (Becky) Bierbaum of Mahtomedi, MN, Donald (Deborah) Bierbaum of Tonka Bay, MN, Nancy (Gene) Boettcher of Eyota, Mary (Kevin) Smith of Eyota, Brenda (Scott) Kurtti of OshKosh, WI; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; one brother Leland Bierbaum of Rochester; step-children; Terry (Mary) Kroening of Winona, Greg Kroening of Elgin, Kris (Dick) Klassen of Red Wing, Jodi (Chris) Williams of Chicago, ILL; 16 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Ruth. Funeral service is Thursday, June 2, 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ north of Eyota with Rev. Jean Boese officiating. Burial is at the Church Cemetery with military grave side rites conducted by the Eyota American Legion. Visitation is Wednesday 5-8 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home, Eyota and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Church.
