Craig Austin

October 25, 1963 — May 22, 2024

Eyota

Gordon “Craig” Austin (60) passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at home on May 22, 2024.

He was born on October 25, 1963, to Gordon and Barbara (Parsons) Austin in Salina, KS.  He graduated in 1982 from Dover-Eyota High School.  He married Chris Enright in 1987. They resided in Eyota, MN, where they raised their two children, his pride and joy, McKenzie & Travis.

Craig was a well-known flooring subcontractor in the local area for 38 years.  He took great pride in his work and often teased that he had ‘one more van’ left in him.  He had an extraordinary talent for wood working, crafting many weekend projects and family heirlooms over the years; his most recent projects being for his grandson. He picked up the liking for online auctions and began collecting unique antiques when not building or painting in his garage.  He enjoyed target shooting and many ATV trips over the years with close friends and family, as well as vacations within and outside the US.  He leaves us too soon with so many wonderful memories, as well as his latest family dog, Gus.

We will miss Craig’s sense of humor; contagious smile, all his hilarious one-liners, pranks, and his natural ability to fix all things; but mostly, we will dearly miss the way he fiercely loved and cared for his family.

Craig is survived by his wife Chris; daughter McKenzie (Robin) Heilskov of Eyota and son Travis Austin (Brandi Remold) of Dover; two grandchildren, the lights of his life, Nolan and Maddyn Heilskov; his mother Barbara of Rochester; sister Valerie of Las Vegas; his wife’s 5 siblings Kim Grems (Al Schroht) and Peter Grass of Owatonna; Rick (Darla) Enright of Kasson; Jerry Enright of Eyota; and Cindy (Bob) Schlink of Winona, along with many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Gordon, sister Teresa Zavatsky, and father and mother-in-law George and Joyce Enright.

Schad and Zabel Funeral Homes will be assisting with arrangements. A visitation will be held in their Eyota Chapel from 5-8pm on Thursday, May 30th.  The funeral service will be held at the South Zumbro Lutheran Church in Kasson, MN, at 10am on Friday, May 31st with Pastor Pete Wyttenbach officiating.
