Daryl Lee Mestad

Daryl, 54 of Elgin died Tuesday. Daryl Lee Mestad was born May 14, 1958 in Spring Grove, MN to Kermit and Norma (Rude) Mestad. He graduated in 1977 from North Winneshiek High School in rural Decorah, Iowa. Daryl married Cindy Klankowski, August 26, 1989 in Rochester, MN. They lived in Rochester and then moved to Elgin in September of 1993. Over the years, Daryl worked as and snow removal business, worked as a machinist/welder and most recently did handyman work. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, turkey calling, building turkey calls, woodworking, remodeling, camping, biking and spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed the time with his hunting buddies, Lucas and Jacob. Survivors include his wife Cindy and two sons, Lucas and Jacob of Elgin. His father, Kermit Mestad of Decorah, Iowa, and brother, Larry (Penny) Mestad of Decorah, Iowa, father and mother-in-law Paul (Elaine) Klankowski of Zumbrota, brother and sister-in-law Dan ( Kae) Klankowski also of Zumbrota, and nieces and nephews, Travis (Lisa) Mestad and their children, Madison, Gavin and Logan, and Tim Mestad of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Paul and Amber Klankowski of Zumbrota. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma, in 2001. The visitation is Friday, 4-8 pm at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview, and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
