David Charles Kaupa

December 29, 1941 — March 19, 2025

David “Dave” Charles Kaupa, of Wabasha (Wilcox Point), died Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was 83 years old.

Dave was born, December 29, 1941, in Brown, Minnesota to Herbert Kaupa Sr. and Opal Madelyn (Bishir) Kaupa.  He graduated from Plainview High School in 1959 and began working with his Dad at the Plainview Locker Plant.  Dave took over the Plainview Locker Plant in 1976.  In 1984, Dave, along with his brother Kim, opened Kim’s Pizza, then later put in a frame shop and gallery.  In 2005, the frame shop, gallery, and locker plant were transformed into Kim’s Saloon.

Dave had a love of nature, taking semi-annual trips out to the Western United States in one of his beloved convertibles.  Dave also enjoyed the annual Canada fishing trips, and even caught the biggest fish…once.

Though never married, Dave was loved by everyone he came into contact with.  Dave is survived by his nephew, Scott Kaupa (Vicki) of Plainview, and nieces, Debra Bruemmer (Wesley) of Elgin, Amy Petersen (Thomas) of Plainview, Katie Nolting (Nathan) of Bemidji, 8 great niece and nephews, and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joe Kaupa and Kim Kaupa, and favorite sister-in-law, Nancy Kaupa (Passe).

Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Schad and Zabel Funeral Home, in Plainview.  There will be no funeral service.

At Dave’s request, following the visitation, friends and family are invited to Kim’s Saloon to celebrate his life.

The Schad and Zabel Funeral Home of Plainview is in charge of arrangements. (507)534-2003 www.schadandzabelfuneralhomes.com.
