David Lyle Booker, 84 of rural Dover, MN passed away on January 2, 2019 at
St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. David was born at home on the family farm
in Dover, on May 6, 1934 to Neil and Lucile (Bailey) Booker. He
graduated from Plainview High School in 1952. After graduation he worked on
the family farm until he was drafted into the Army and served in the UN forces
in Korea.
On July 15, 1961 he was united in marriage to Jean Stephan at Trinity
Lutheran Church in Elgin, MN. David and Jean made their home on the family
farm in rural Dover where they farmed and raised their family.
David was a very active member in the community for most of his life. He was a
member of Trinity Lutheran church, served on the Quincy Township board,
Olmsted County Fair Board, Little Valley Cemetery board and was also a Farm
Bureau board member.
David and Jean were active 4-H leaders of the Quincy Ramblers 4-H Club for
many years. They were also avid members of the Whitewater Whirlers Square
Dance Club. David and Jean enjoyed going to the annual threshing shows in
South Dakota. He even refurbished a Minneapolis Moline tractor and took it to
some shows.
David is survived by sons: Brian of Dover, Mark of Salina, KS; Jeremy of
Dover, daughter: Julie (Brad) Sandvik, and Bryanna of Wabasha, MN;
daughter Jennifer (Darien) Waniorek and family of Twin Brooks, SD; and
brother Fritz Booker of Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, a stillborn son; his young son
Gary; father Neil; mother Lucile; brothers, Alva and Robert and sister-in-law
Sue Booker.
There will be a visitation at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview on
Sunday, Jan. 6 from 3- 5pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday,
January 7, 11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 305 1st St. NW, Elgin with
Pastor Bramstedt officiating. Burial will be at Little Valley Cemetery. There will
also be a visitation Monday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
