David Allen Vehrenkamp

David Allen Vehrenkamp, 86, of Eyota, died Thursday, September 19, 2024, in Eyota MN.

David was born July 30, 1938, in Rochester MN to Herman and Gladys (Klomps) Vehrenkamp.  He attended country school in rural Eyota until the 8th grade and graduated from Eyota High School in 1956.

On August 5, 1957, David married Nancy Pries in Eyota.  They resided on the Vehrenkamp family farm near Chester where David farmed alongside his dad.  In 1960 they moved to the Pries family farm north of Eyota where they farmed the rest of their lives and raised their 5 children.  David was happiest when he was in one of the John Deere’s cutting hay or picking corn.

David operated Vehrenkamp Trucking for many years where he hauled thousands of cattle and pigs all over SE MN and beyond for area farmers and sales barns and included the yearly trip for the local 4H livestock to the MN State fair.

David was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota.  He served on the Oak Grove cemetery board, Eyota Lions Club and was on the school board for Dover Eyota schools for many years.

David is survived by his five children. Wayne (Irene) Vehrenkamp of Eyota, Rick (Tracy) Vehrenkamp of Dover, Todd (Kim) Vehrenkamp of Byron, Scott (Juanita) Vehrenkamp of Eau Claire WI and Shelly (Don) Danielson of St Charles; 15 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brother Clyde Vehrenkamp of Eyota and sister Mary Cummings of Dover.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, grandparents and siblings Floyd Vehrenkamp and Bernice McIntosh.

Funeral service is 11:00 am Wednesday, September 25 at Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota with Paster Laurie Boche officiating.  Burial is at Oak Grove Cemetery in Eyota MN.  Visitation is from 4 pm to 7 pm Tuesday, September 24 at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
