Delores Marie Melvin, 89, of Rochester passed on Sunday, September 7, with family at her side, at the Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester. She was born March 2, 1925 at the family home in rural Plainview to Arnold and Irene (Schouweiler) Schneider. Delores attended Burnham Country School. On September 11, 1945, she married Martin J. Melvin. They farmed in Highland Township, Wabasha County till 1968. Delores also worked at Kahler, Sheraton and Holiday Inn Hotels in Rochester until she retired. She enjoyed her family, gardening, traveling, cooking, needle work, and music. Delores is survived by a son, Larry (Martha) Melvin of Rochester; three daughters, Theresa Martin of Bloomington Springs, TN, Susan Harcey of Rochester, Bernadine Melvin of Wabasha, daughter-in-law, Sharon Melvin of Plainview; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great- great-grandchild; 2 sisters, Patricia Shea of LaCrescent, Irene (Layne) Buckingham of Kenyon and sister-in-law, Ruth Schneider of Plainview. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin J. Melvin, a son Mike Melvin, a grandson Cody Van Schaick, a granddaughter Abygail Anguiano, two brothers, Art and Francis Schneider and two sisters Dorothy Kennebeck and Mary Boie and her son-in-laws, Daniel Harcey Sr. and Rick Martin. Visitation is Thursday, September 11, 4-7 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
