Dolores (Dee) Delaney

d. July 28, 2018

Dolores (Dee) Delaney was born January 26, 1932. She lived a full life of love and giving in her 86 years before passing on July 28, 2018. Dee was born and raised on a farm near Johnsburg, MN.  She grew up with her parents, Paul and Bertha, and her two younger brothers Cliff and Chuck, who have all gone on to eternal life. Dee attended school in Johnsburg, and graduated from the Good Counsel Academy in Mankato. Her passion for helping others, led her to attend St. Mary’s School of Nursing. Dee worked at St. Mary’s and Mayo Clinic for many years, serving her community with love and compassion. Her career shifted to family when she married Pat Delaney in 1957, and they had 5 children together; (Tim Delaney, Renee (Tom) Walker, Karen Delaney, Mary (Jason) Koehler, and Paula Delaney. Dee nurtured and taught her 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren the love of God, love of one another, and love for the world of nature. Dee’s passion for Christ inspired her to the lay ministry, and she graduated from the Institute of Lay Ministry (The Institute of Lay Formation) where, “I grew in knowledge of the richness of the Catholic faith.” She served her community and parish ministry in many and varied roles. Dee could often be found amid piles of fabric creating quilts for the needy that have made their way across the country. Dee was overjoyed with the honor of being chosen first Grand Marshall of the Viola Gopher Count, an honor well deserved. Her life was also filled with the joy of being involved with the many events of her children, grand- and great grandchildren…their greatest fan! In her challenge with cancer, Dee was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was supported by the many prayers and kindnesses of her friends and family, “you all gave me the courage to face my challenges. I am most grateful to all of you, my family, and the Mayo Clinic medical community for your love and caring. God has blessed me in many ways.” Dee will be greatly missed, and will live on in the hearts of many and on the wings of the monarch. Funeral Mass is Thursday, August 2nd, 11 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Eyota with Father Tim Biren officiating. Burial is at St. John’s cemetery in Johnsburg, Minnesota at a later date.
