Donald “Donnie” Ball 73, of Elba, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Seasons Hospice in
Rochester.
Donald Darrel Ball was born April 6, 1941 in Beaver, MN, to Floyd and Arlene (Pugh)
Ball. He attended school in Plainview. He married Janice Kieffer June 24, 1960 in Elba,
where they made their home. They were happily married for 30 years. Janice died
May 14, 1990. On March 17, 2000 he married Judy (Wehrs) Williams in Rochester.
They continued to make their home in Elba.
Donnie had worked for Brad Ragen Tire Co. in Winona, and for the past years was
employed by Road Constructors Inc. of Rochester. He was the former Mayor of Elba,
the president of the breakfast club at the Elba House, and was active for many years
in AA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and being in the outdoors spending
time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Judy of Elba; six children, Steve (Linda) Ball of Elba, Sheri
Ball (Mark Jensen) of Theilman, Shawn Ball (Mark Spencer) of Elba, Sheila (Chris)
Pappas of Rochester, Scott Ball (Tricia Lorenz) of Elba, Shelly (Mike) Smith of
Aberdeen, Maryland; grandchildren, Amber (Michael) Maringer, Mandy (Kyle)
Cutshall, Tyler Ball, Jessica Weis, Jennifer (James) Haley, Jamie Hoekstra, Josh
(Jessica) Hoekstra, Jordon Hoekstra, Andrew Ferk, Janice Ball, Nicole (Jeff) Jensen,
Natasha (Heath) Sanders, Erica Schweitzer, Cassandra Pappas, Brittney Ball,
Breanna Hall, Hailey Hanna, Lilley Hanna, Michael Smith, Michelle Smith; great-
grandchildren, Elijah, Seraiah, Noah, Amariah, Hannah, Damien, Danielle, Dana,
Kendra, Kaylei, Kaisen, Aubrey, Adrianna, Bradyn, Brooklyn, Austin, Carson, Kierstyn,
Issabella, Jayce Donald; 1 brother, Denny (Margie) Ball of Theilman and 1 sister,
Donna ( Owen) Tlougan of Plainview.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Janice, 2 brothers, Kenny and Leroy
and 1 sister, Paulette Koenig.
Funeral Mass will be Thursday, July 17, 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in
Elba with Father Paul Breza officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is
Wednesday 5-8 p.m. at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and 1 hour
prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
