Donald “Don” E. Engler of Elgin, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2018. Don was born on December 11, 1932 to Ervin and Adella (Kujath) Engler in Albert Lea. He attended schools in Marshall and Claremont and moved to Rochester to be close to Mayo Clinic due to his father’s stroke and subsequent death. Adella married Frank Passe and their families grew together. On September 8, 1952, Don married his life-long partner and wife, Joyce Rosolack in Elgin. Don enlisted in the National Guard and worked for Greenway Co-op for a number of years. He worked for 35 years as a supervisor for Texile Clothing Care and retired in 1996. Don and Joyce enjoyed fishing and camping for many years. They especially enjoyed playing cards with their special friends, Jim and Arlene Cummins. Don told his family many times, ”It’s been a good life.” Don is survived by his wife, Joyce; children Terry (Jean) Engler of Elgin, Ron Engler of Elgin, Rick (Patty) Engler of Menomonie, WI and Cindy (Dick) Decker of Iowa Park, TX; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Jan Fuller, Rosemary Koenig, Annabelle Sullivan and Dick Passe. Don was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jeanette Applegate, Berniece Wojcik; brothers, Kenneth Engler, Robert Engler and Roger Passe; and one grandson. The family would like to thank the staff at Cottagewood and Heartland Hospice for all of their care and support. The funeral service is Monday, May 7, 11:00 a.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview with Mr. Michael Longanecker officiating. Burial is at the Elgin Cemetery. Visitation is Monday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family prefers memorials be made to Heartland Hospice, 821 3rd Ave., SE, #15, Rochester, MN 55904.
