Donald Ihrke, 90, died Saturday, November 19, at Arbor Gardens in Eyota. Donald was born December 25, 1925 in Viola Township to William and Lydia (Dubbels) Ihrke. He attended country school north of Eyota. He joined the US Army in April of 1945, serving in the South Pacific, and was then discharged in December of 1946. On September 18, 1947 he married Eleen Dobrinz at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin and they farmed North of Eyota. In 1988 they moved to Plainview, living there until moving to Eyota in 1996. Eleen died September 5, 1997. On October 29, 1998, Donald married Geraldine Hansen at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and they lived in St. Charles until moving to Arbor Gardens in Eyota, February 2016. Geraldine died March 25, 2016. Donald was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and had served on the church council. He was also a member of the Eyota American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, woodworking, puzzles, and was as avid gardener. He is survived by his children; David (Jane) Ihrke of Owatonna, Barb (Roger) Pike of Eyota, Brent (Kay) Ihrke of Dover and Brian (Sandy) Ihrke of Eyota; 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Gladys Loucks of Stewartville. He is also survived by a step-daughter, LaDonna Corbin of Plainview, and step- sons, James Hansen of Dover, David (Nancy) Hansen of Elba, and Larry Hansen (Kris Opsahl) Of Plainview, 7 step-grandchildren and 12 step- great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 2 wives, 6 brothers and 4 sisters. Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 23, 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, north of Eyota with Rev. Jean Boese officiating. Burial is in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Eyota American Legion. Visitation is Wednesday, 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
