Donald Joseph Murphy

Donald Joseph Murphy, 97, of Plainview, passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN, on November 6, 2023.

Don was the eighth of eleven children born to Martin and Marie (Gludt) Murphy on January 21, 1926. On September 27, 1951, he married Lorraine Kruger. They had eight children.

Don and Lorraine farmed in Conception. Don also held jobs with Reiter Implement, Plainview Liquor Store, Lakeside Packing Co. and did custodial and care taking at the Conception Church. Don sold the farm in 1990.

Don was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the American Legion. He was a lifetime member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Don was a hospice volunteer for 17 years.

He is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Steve) Flies, three sons, Daniel (Julie), Timothy (Wendy) and Martin (Angie) Murphy; 20 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Lorraine, two sons, two daughters, one granddaughter and ten brothers and sisters.

The funeral mass will be Monday, November 13, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery with Military grave side rites conducted by the Plainview American Legion Post #179.

The visitation, will be Sunday, November 12th, 4-7 PM at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
