Doris Jean Folkert, 86, of Plainview, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation Center in Plainview. Doris (Storlie) Folkert was born December 8, 1930 at Spring Grove, MN to Alfred and Lena (Lien) Storlie, the youngest of 11 children. She graduated from Spring Grove High School in May of 1948. Following high school graduation she was employed as the office secretary at Spring Grove High School and as the secretary to Supt. Albert Hjelle. In 1951 she moved to Rochester and was employed at Mayo Clinic as a medical secretary until 1955. From 1955 to 1958 she was employed at IBM as a secretary in Customer Engineering. In October of 1958 she married Delvin Folkert at Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer near Spring Grove. They farmed in the Plainview-Millville area for 33 years when they moved to Plainview. Delvin died November 24, 2010. Besides being a wife and mother of 7 children, Doris worked as the office secretary for Wabasha County Farm Bureau and Farm Bureau Insurance for 20 years. Following her retirement from Farm Bureau, she worked for Plainview SEMCAC as the site manager for 5 years. Doris was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the ILCW. Doris and Delvin danced with the Whitewater Whirlers square dance club for 30 short years. She enjoyed baking, traveling, gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Marilee (Allen) Sexton of Elgin, John (Jane) Folkert of Elgin, Greg Folkert of Plainview, Burnell (Susan) Folkert of Rochester, Gerald (Tami) Folkert of Plainview, Laura Folkert-Chafee of Rochester and Rhonda Ryan (Jim Behrns) of Plainview; 18 grandchildren; Stuart, Shannah, Scott, Levi, Nolan, Claire, Gavin, Rachel, Bryan, Nathan, Neil, Kyle, Mathew, Brady, Ethan, Benjamin, Kayla and Megan; 4 great-grandchildren; Avery, Emma, Lucy and Abby; She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson; John, 4 brothers and 6 sisters. Funeral service is Saturday, July 22, 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Rev. Phil Augustine officiating. Burial is at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. Visitation is Friday, July 21, 5-7 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
