Duane Michael Lee, age 84, of Plainview, hit the road on his final journey in
the early morning hours of September 9, 2019. He was born July 31, 1935 in
rural Kellogg, to Michael and Catherine (Marking) Lee. He graduated from
Plainview High School in 1953. He worked on his family’s farm and would drive
to the Graff family farm in Montana to help out before entering the Army in
1957. He served at Brooke Army Medical Center/Fort Sam Houston in San
Antonio, Texas. He married Eileen M. in 1959 in Texas. He was honorably
discharged and they returned to live and work in Winona. In 1962 they moved
to California where he worked for many years for Double “J” Packaging Co.
They lived in Burbank and raised two daughters, and later divorced. He made
multiple trips between California and Minnesota before permanently moving
back to Minnesota in 1991 where he met his longtime partner Maxine Sims. He
was employed by ABA Water Systems and also ran a successful handyman
business with Maxine, along with making and selling various woodworking and
craft items. He could repair just about anything. He loved the open road and
exploring the United States in his motor home . He enjoyed living in California,
riding his Honda Gold wing motorcycle, watching westerns and listening to
country music. He was beloved by all of his family and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by: daughters Cheryl (Joe) Kaid and Cindy (David) McClure;
sister Janice (Edgar) Hansgen and two brothers Gary(Joan) Lee and Larry
(Terry) Lee; Life Partner Maxine Sims and her children Bill (Sonja Stevens)
Sims, Shannan Stoltz, Mark (Chris) Sims and Angela (Bob) Howaniec.
Grandchildren Justin, Nick, Jessica, Graham, Brittany, Jared, Nathan,
Gabrielle, Nick, Eddie, Raegan and John; Great-grandchildren Kenzington and
Marleigh; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in
death by his parents, his brother Don and sister Marlene.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Plainview American Legion on
Saturday,
October 26, 2019 from 2-5 p.m.
