Earl Kitzman

Earl M. Kitzman, 92 of Potsdam died on Thursday April 9, 2026, with his loving family by his side at Green Prairie Assisted Living. Earl was born in Farmington Township on July 15, 1933, to Alfred and Laura (Hoffman) Kitzman. He attended country school near Potsdam and started farming with his father at a young age. Earl served in the United States Army from 1954-1956 in Colorado. He married Evie Heddlesten on March 2, 1957, and the couple lived near Potsdam, where they farmed together. Earl was on the All-American Cooperative Board from 1970 to 1999 and served as President from 1980 to 1999. He also served on the Greenwood Prairie Burial Association for over 30 years and was a member of the Elgin American Legion for 52 consecutive years with some of those years serving as Commander. Earl retired from farming on Thursday April 9, 2026. Earl and Evie enjoyed traveling a little, fishing, and dancing, and Earl enjoyed visiting with people and spending time with his family.

Earl is survived by his wife Evie of sixty-nine years, his three children Michael (Jeanne) Kitzman of Rochester, Karen (Gary) Jech of Elgin, and Jeff Kitzman of Elgin, eight grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elaine Hannenberger, and brother Milton Kitzman.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday April 18, 2026, at Schad and Zabel Funeral Home (57 3rd Street SW) in Plainview, with full Military Honors, visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place later at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Schad and Zabel Funeral Homes is privileged to be serving the Kitzman family.
