Eleanor Geneva Crary, 84 of Plainview passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Parkside Eldercare in Plainview. She was born February 8, 1932 at home in York Township, Fillmore County to Leland and Hazel (Bessingpas) Mensink.  As a young child she grew up on a farm by Cherry Grove.  She attended the Red School for 8 years, then went to Wykoff High School graduating in 1949.  She worked in Austin Minnesota for a year and then moved to Rochester and worked at the Third Avenue Café.  She met Arnold (Bud) Crary on a blind date and was married December 12th 1952 at the Cherry Grove Church.  They made their home south of Plainview on the farm they bought from Arnold’s uncle and lived there for the rest of her life raising 4 sons. Eleanor belonged to the United Methodist Womens Circle and sat on the United Methodist Church board at one time.  She loved flowers, gardening, cooking, baking Christmas cookies, and teaching her grandkids how to play cards.  She enjoyed watching the birds out her kitchen windows and was proud of being a farmer’s wife. She is survived by her husband, Arnold (Bud) of 63 years, four sons, Dennis (Karen) Crary of Plainview, Kevin Crary of Elgin, Bruce Crary of Brooklyn Center, and Kent (Verna) Crary of Plainview, 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister Bernice Lichty. Funeral service is Monday, July 11, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Peace United Methodist Church Plainview/Elgin with Rev. John Curtiss officiating. Burial is at the Elgin Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, 4-7 pm at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
