He was born on March 9, 1919 to Henry and Elsie (Lawrenz) Neumann in Whitewater Township, Winona County. Elmer grew up and lived on the family farm in rural Plainview that was homesteaded by his grandfather Franz Neumann and obtained Century farm recognition. He attended country school, Immanuel Lutheran School and Plainview High School. On October 8, 1949, Elmer married Le Etta Schulz at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. They celebrated 64 years together this month. Elmer and Le Etta moved into Plainview in 1988. Elmer was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran church where he served in various offices. He was a steward of the land and was recognized for conservation efforts in the 50’s and 60’s. He served on the Whitewater Township board. He enjoyed wood carving and would spend countless hours perfecting his craft. Elmer is survived by his wife, Le Etta of Plainview, children; Tom (Roxann) Neumann of Plainview, Dorie (Mark) Oja of Redwood Falls, grandchildren; Jessica (Damian) Krier of Plainview, Amanda Rabehl of Elgin, Vickie (Mike) Biehn of Cleveland, MN, Vincent (Pam) Neumann of Plainview, Matt (Katie) Oja of San Antonio, TX, Jon Oja and friend Amber Ooley of Duluth, great-grandchildren; Ethan Neumann, Kylee Kruger, Amelia, Destinee, Mikenzie and Courtney Krier. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son Gary Neumann, 1 grandson Jared Neumann, siblings, George Neumann, Delores Mussell, Dorothy Arko, and Henry (Bud) Neumann Jr. Funeral Service is Thursday 11 a.m. October 31, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Rev. Scott Hirssig officiating. Burial is at the Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. Visitation is Wednesday, 5-8 p.m. at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
