Freida Jane Stoltz (Van Houten), 91, formerly from Plainview, MN, passed away peacefully at Ecumen Memory Care in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on August 23, 2025, surrounded by family members.
She was born on February 21, 1934, in West Albany, Minnesota to George Van Houten and Irene (Schultz) Van Houten. Freida attended various country schools in the area and graduated from Plainview High School in 1952. She then was united in marriage to Allyn Stoltz on September 30, 1952. Together they raised three children on the family farm near Plainview and celebrated 72 years of marriage.
Most of Freida's life was spent as a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family. She would cook big Sunday dinners that included her salad making talents and the best homemade cinnamon rolls ever. She enjoyed embroidering, reading, and baking, as well as being an active member of the Highview Homemakers and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. Square dancing with her husband, Allyn, was one of the highlights of her life that lasted for 43 years.
Freida was preceded in death by her son Glenn, parents George and Irene (Schultz) Van Houten, sisters Orlene (Wallerich) and Georgia (Packer) and brothers Joe and Dwaine Van Houten.
She is survived by husband Allyn of Detroit Lakes, daughters Denise (Cox) of Detroit Lakes and Lisa (Johnson) of Blaine, brothers Mark of Wabasha and Ralph (Betty) of Plainview, five grandchildren: Jason Stoltz, Dana Walsh, Kayla Noble, Angela Cox, and Benjamin Cox and three great grandchildren: Milo Noble, Etta Noble, and Ava Walsh.
A one-hour visitation will be held at 9:00 am with the funeral following at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plainview, Minnesota.
