Gerald "Jerry" Bierbaum

January 20, 1934 — March 28, 2024

Gerald Bierbaum, 90, of Eyota, MN passed away on Thursday, March 28th. Gerald was born on January 20, 1934, at home to Arthur and Magdalena (Hammel) Bierbaum on the farm that his great grandfather Carl H. Bierbaum homesteaded.  He graduated from Eyota High School in 1952. He served in the army from 1954-1956 including being stationed in Germany. Gerald then started farming in 1956 until retiring and moving to Eyota in 1997.  He married Darlene Mickow on May 28, 1960.  He served on the council of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, including being treasurer.  He served as church youth leader for several years.  In 1976, Gerald received the Century Farm award at the MN State Fair.  Gerald and Darlene were King and Queen of Viola Gopher Count in 1997.  In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling to Europe twice, Alaska, Hawaii and many other states, dancing, playing cards, bowling and snowmobiling. During the years, he enjoyed woodworking; making things for family and friends.

He is survived by Darlene, three children, Renae (Mark) Highum, Steve (Penee) Bierbaum and Gary (Julie) Bierbaum, grandchildren Amie (Adam) Burgess, Erik (Barb) Highum, and Jaya, Lynn, Tessa, Josie and Max Bierbaum, 4 great grandchildren, sister Avis (Vermon) James, brother Roger (Dolores) Bierbaum and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Bernice and Russell Heins, and sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Harold Frost.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s UCC, 12941 Co. Rd 9, Eyota, MN. on Saturday, April 6th at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the services at 10:00 am at St. Paul’s UCC. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Schad and Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials preferred to St. Paul’s UCC.
