Gladys L. Claussen, 103, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Health
Minnesota, to Dan and Elsie (Johnson) Herman.
She attended Schad’s Corner rural school and graduated from Plainview High
School in 1927. Gladys then attended Winona Normal College. She taught 28
years in rural schools of Wabasha, Winona and Olmsted Counties. Gladys then
taught 8 years at the Plainview Public School as a Special Education teacher,
retiring in 1975.
She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview where she
served on the ladies aid, Pricilla club and taught Release Time.
On September 5, 1931 Gladys married Ervin Claussen at Immanuel Lutheran.
They lived there entire married life in Plainview. Ervin died March 12, 1988.
Survivors include, 1 son, Gordon (Glee) Claussen of Lanesboro, 1 daugher,
Marilyn Claussen of Red Wing and daughter in law, Bernice Claussen of
Rosemount. 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren
and 1 sister, Vera Schwantz of Plainview also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, 1 son, Wayne and 2 sisters, Donna
Zabel and Maxine Hall.
The funeral service will be Saturday, July 20, 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Plainview with Rev. Scott Hirssig officiating. Burial will be at the
Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. The visitation will be Saturday, 1 hour prior to
the service at the church.
Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church or St. Elizabeth Health
Care Center.
