The funeral for retired TSGT Gordon H. Austin, Jr., age 81, will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017. Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles with the Pastor Steve McGinley officiating. Gordon H Austin, Jr. of Dover died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Whitewater Healthcare Services in St. Charles. Mr. Austin was born December 23, 1935 in Lanesboro. He graduated from Chatfield High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953. On March 18, 1961 he married Barbara Parsons in Salina, Kansas. Mr. Austin completed tours in Korea and Viet Nam while serving in the Air Force. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 after serving 20 years He then worked for the United States Postal Service before retiring for good in 1997. Mr. Austin belonged to Faith Lutheran Church in St. Charles. He was a member of the Eyota American Legion Post # 551 and a former member of the Royal Order of Moose in St. Charles. He enjoyed many hours playing horseshoes, taking care of his lawn and garden, playing with his grandchildren and his beloved dog, Boo Boo. Gordon is survived by his wife, Barbara of Dover, two daughters, Teresa Zavatsky of Utica, Valerie Austin of Las Vegas; and son Craig (Chris) Austin of Eyota; six grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Elvina Austin; two sisters, Mildred Caw and Geraldine Tierney; and two brothers, Donald Austin and Robert Austin. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at Union Prairie Cemetery, rural Lanesboro. The Eyota American Legion Post #551 will be providing Military Honors.
