Gwendolyn Flies

Gwendolyn Jean Flies, age 71, of rural Kellogg, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at Mayo Clinic - Methodist Campus, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 15, 1953, in Plainview, Gwen was the daughter of Edgar Senst and Mary (Kruger) Senst. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1971. In her early years, Gwen worked alongside her mother at Senst Department Store and later at Lakeside Foods.

On September 29, 1973, Gwen married the love of her life, Paul Flies. Together, they purchased Starr Hill Farms, where they built a life farming and raising their three children: Phil, Jess, and Brian.

Gwen adored her seven grandchildren-Riley, Callie, Rowan, Reed, Ella, Declan, and Brynn. Time spent with them at the farm brought her immense joy. She cherished the energy, laughter, and even the chaos of family vacations, treasuring every shared moment.

A woman of many passions, Gwen found joy in sewing, baking, and ranger rides through the countryside. She was an avid Minnesota sports fan, always cheering on the Twins and Vikings. She loved animated movies and was a devoted viewer of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. Known for her sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor, Gwen had a gift for making people laugh and feel loved. Her friends were like family, and time with them was among her greatest joys.

Gwen is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years, Paul; their children: Phil (Natalie) Flies, Jess (Will) Reeves, and Brian (Suzanne) Flies; and her beloved grandchildren: Riley, Callie, Rowan, Reed, Ella, Declan, and Brynn. She is also survived by Paul's siblings and their spouses, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Senst and Mary (Kruger) Senst; stepfather, Albert Schroeder; brothers-in-law, Bill Flies and James Flies; and sisters-in-law, Millie Flies and Marlys Flies.

A visitation will be held at Saint Joachim Catholic Church (900 W Broadway, Plainview, MN 55964) on September 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will take place from 12:00-3:00 p.m. at the Plainview American Legion. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Lung Association in Gwen's memory.
