Helen LaBare, 90, formerly of Eyota, died Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester. Helen was born on January 11, 1925 in Rock Dell, MN, to Lewis and Mathilda (Skogen) Brakke. She went to school at Olmsted County District #76 through 8th grade and graduated from Byron High School in 1944. On October 16, 1944 she married Wesley C. LaBare at the Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester. They lived in Rochester until moving to the LaBare family farm near Viola in 1948. Helen was a homemaker until around 1958 when she went to work at Waters Conley. She worked there until 1969 then Wes and Helen bought and ran LaBare’s Clothing Store in Plainview. They sold the store in 1981 and retired. Helen was a member of the Viola Bible Church where she taught Sunday school. She was involved in the Viola Gopher Gals, 4H, loved to bake, and in her spare time she crocheted beautiful doilies. Wes and Helen were honored to be King and Queen of the Viola Gopher Count in 1986. She is survived by her children; Cheryl (Richard) Graham of Winona, Terry (Donna) LaBare of Eyota, Douglas (Vicky) LaBare , Steven (Sandra) LaBare, both of Dover and Craig (Veronica) LaBare of Rochester; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley, 1 son, Jeffrey, 1 grandson, 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Funeral services are Saturday, August 8, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at the Viola Bible Church in Viola, MN with Rev. Les Stevens officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Viola Township.
