Herbert “Herb” L. Radtke, 91 of Elgin, MN passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital
on Friday November 22, 2019.
Herb was born and raised in Eyota, MN on a farm. He attended country school
completing the 8th grade. Herb joined the United States Army in 1950 after
being honorably discharged he began farming in rural, Elgin, MN as well as
working for Arnold’s Supply at IBM until retirement.
Herb married Dolores (Daugherty) Radtke on October 15, 1952 in Pine Island,
MN. They recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. Herb enjoyed John Deere
tractors, traveling, and family. Herb loved tinkering with his cars, lawn mowers
and visiting with people. Herb had a strong Christian faith and was a member
of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, MN for several years. Herb was also a
member of the American Legion in Plainview, MN for 30+ years. Herb was very
loved by many people and will be missed dearly.
Herb is survived by his wife Dolores (Daugherty) Radtke, his daughter Donna
Radtke, son Leonard (Kay) Radtke, son Earl Radtke, and daughter Debra
(Randy) Bigelow. He is also survived by 9 grand-children and 12 great grand-
children. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Alta (Calkins)
Radtke, daughter Julie Burma, daughter-in-law Brenda Radtke and grand-
daughter Kelly Bigelow. He is also preceded in death by Arelene Skrukrud
(Sister), Rudy Radtke (Brother) and Ruben Radtke (brother).
A funeral service celebrating Herb’s life will be held Wednesday November 27,
2019 11:00a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, MN with Reverend Terrill
Bramstedt officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday November 26, 2019 from
5:00-7:00p.m. at Schad and Zabel funeral home in Plainview, MN as well as 1
hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held Friday November 29,
2019 10:15a.m. at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis, MN. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
