Janet, “Jan” Bierbaum Loftus, age 87, passed away peacefully Monday, April 16th, at Season's Hospice House in Rochester, Minnesota. Jan was born on September 23, 1931 to Lila (Johnson) and Russell Perry in St. Paul, Minnesota. She had one younger sister, Estelle.
They moved to Republic, Michigan shortly thereafter.  She graduated from Republic High School in 1949.
In September of 1949, she moved to Rochester, Minnesota and worked at Mayo Clinic. She met the love of her life, Marlow Bierbaum and they married in 1951. They had two children, Dean and Susan.
Marlow and his closest friend, Jack Hughes,  built a power boat by themselves from a kit, and she and Marlow, with Jo and Jack Hughes and their families and friends enjoyed many Sundays on the Mississippi River at Wabasha and Lake City. She also enjoyed snowmobiling, the Minnesota Vikings, crossword puzzles, bird watching and time spent with her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and a wonderful home maker. She worked at Pinewood Elementary School in Rochester as a secretary, and with her husband, Marlow, operated Bierbaum Oil Company in Eyota. 
Marlow died after a short illness in 1980.
She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Eyota, Minnesota. She was the first woman to serve on the church council at St. Paul's. 
In 1982, she married Lloyd Loftus. They enjoyed their time at a family cabin on Lac Court O'Reilles and then living year round on Grindstone Lake for several years, both near Hayward, Wisconsin.
They eventually moved to Plainview, Minnesota, where among other activities, she enjoyed volunteering for Faith in Action.
A couple of years after Lloyd died in 1999, she moved to Arbor Gardens in Eyota, Minnesota, where she enjoyed her friends and playing Bingo, among other activities.
Jan is survived by her children Dean Bierbaum (Gail) of Eyota, MN and Susan (Scott) Saxton of Shakopee, MN, grandchildren, Sarah (Maria) Bierbaum Williams of Glasgow, Scotland, and Rachel (Ben) Switzer of Waseca, MN, a great grandson, Daniel Switzer, a great granddaughter, Abigail Switzer and extended families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlow, her husband, Lloyd, her parents, her sister, her grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Jan's family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff at Arbor Gardens in Eyota, and the staff of the memory care facility at Arbor Gardens, the staff at St. Mary's Hospital, and the staff at Season's Hospice House.
There will be a memorial service on Monday, April 22, at 1 PM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Eyota with Pastor Jean Boese officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 to 1:00, at the church. Interment is at the church cemetery.
