Jeanette Marie Walch was born March 24, 1922 in Winona, Minnesota to Arthur
and Della (Schneider) Walch. She grew up in the Oak Ridge and Altura area,
and was a Lewiston High School graduate. She attended the Minnesota
Business College and was employed by the Aetna Insurance Co. in Minneapolis.
On June 18, 1947, she married John H. Schad at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church
in Plainview. They resided and raised their family in Plainview. John died August
10, 1979.
She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America,
Ladies Council of Catholic Women, Hillcrest Auxiliary, and was a member of the
Wabasha County Cancer Board. She also served many years as a Hospice
Volunteer. She enjoyed
playing cards, traveling, reading and following her grandchildren’s sports.
Jeanette is survived by her children; John (Joyce) Schad of Glencoe, Mike
(Connie) Schad of Zumbro Falls, Bill (Mary Lou) Schad of Plainview, Susan
(Bruce) Downey of Eagan, grandchildren; Nancy Schad, Becky (Nathan) Jaster,
Sarah (Shawn) Mathews, John R. Schad, Kyle (Jessica) Schad, Mallory Schad,
Bob, Elizabeth, Rachel and Samantha Downey, greatgrandchildren; Lauren,
Ben, and Cole Jaster and Griffen, Haidyn and Makena Mathews and two sisters,
Mary Neumann of Elgin, IL and Sally (David) Stewart of Valporaiso, IN.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, 1 son Bob, and two brothers,
Donald and LaVerne Walch.
Funeral Mass is Saturday, November 29, 11 am at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church
in Plainview with Father William Becker officiating. Burial is at the St. Joachim’s
Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is Friday 4-8 pm at the Schad & Zabel Funeral
Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Green Prairie Place in Plainview.
