Jon Philip Green was born April 11, 1936 in Plainview Township to Philip and Jean
(Thompson) Green.
In September of 1967, he married Sylvia Hofschulte in Plainview.
Jon graduated from Plainview High School in 1954. He joined the United States
Army in 1960 serving in Korea and was discharge in 1964. He then attended the
University of Wisconsin, Stout. Jon then moved to Isle, MN and worked at the
family lumberyard. In 1966 he moved back to Plainview and along with his mother,
they purchased the Plainview bowling alley “Mix-N-Bowl” which they operated until
they sold in 1985. At that time Jon opened the “Custom Shop” a Taxidermy
business. He also did carpentry work and installed bowling lanes. In the summer of
1994 he started working at the Piper Hills Golf Course in Plainview.
He was a longtime member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview.
Jon was very involved with the Upper Whitewater Ducks Unlimited Chapter,
serving as president, secretary and treasure. He was also a member of the
National Turkey Federation and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf,
bowling, building fishing rods, making fishing jigs and fly tying.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia of Plainview; Children, Tony McHugh, Jeff
(Becky) McHugh, Paula Green (Bill), all of Plainview, and Valerie Eggler (Jeff) of
Oronoco; Grandchildren, Jesse McHugh, Andrea Dessner, Lyna Koepsell, Cassie
McHugh, Lisa Greseth, Candice Kahler, Terry Eggler, Cody Eggler; great-
grandchildren, Garrett and Blake Dessner, Dylan, Dawson, and Brynn Koepsell
and Kinlee Hahn; Sisters, Norma (Bud) Holst of Rochester and Patty Southhard of
Irving, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bruce and one
granddaughter Elizabeth.
Funeral Service is Friday, November 22, 11 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian
Church in Plainview with Rev. John Curtiss officiating. Burial will be at the
Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview with military grave side rites conducted by the
Plainview American Legion Post 179. Visitation is Thursday, 4-8 p.m. at the
Community Presbyterian Church and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
