The Joy we had in Joyce has ended. The Milk duds have run out. The funeral mass for Joyce Marilyn Markus age 94, of Plainview will be Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Joachim Catholic Church, Plainview, MN. Joyce died at her home on June 13, 2019 surrounded by loved ones. She was born on July 17, 1924 in Plainview to Bill and Pearl DePuy. She was one of Plainview’s matriarchs. She graduated from Plainview High School, married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Markus (October 26, 1949), of Plainview, and raised her family in Plainview. Joyce was a Mom, Grandma, Sister, Friend, Gambler, Laugher, Lover, Chocolate Eater, and “elephant lovin” Republican. Joyce was very spiritual. She was an active member of the St. Joachim’s Catholic Church. She also belonged to the American Legion auxiliary. Golfing, Bingo, and trips to the Casino were her passion. Joyce told her family what she would miss most in this world, was watching the Twins win the World Series this Fall, and also her beloved Vikings. She is survived by her five children, Rebecca (Mike) Kanz, Gwen (Neil) Gallant, Bill (Pat) Markus, Judy (Jeff) Gair, and Kris (Robert) Meller, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, sister, Jerry Henry, grandson, Markus Gallant and granddaughter, Katie Kanz. Friends may call Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the services at the church.
