Kenneth Dwight LeVan-Elgin A private funeral for Kenneth Dwight LeVan will be at 11:am Tuesday at the Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview with the Rev. John Curtis officiating. Burial will be in the Elgin Cemetery. Kenneth LeVan, 91, of rural Elgin, died Thursday (November 19, 2020) at St. Mary’s hospital Rochester following a brief illness. Kenneth was born on August 26, 1929 on a farm in Estherville, Iowa to Lynn and Hardie LeVan (Partello). In 1934 he moved with his family to a farm in Elmore MN. In 1937 he moved with his family to Armstrong, Iowa and opened their family owned and operated general store, “LeVans Cash Store” supplying customers with all of their household needs. His family then moved to Fairmont and opened a family store and restaurant for 1 year and then farmed for a short time NW of Armstrong before moving to Elgin with his family in 1946. Kenneth graduated from Armstrong, Iowa High School. He married Esther Fredericksen on Nov. 22, 1952. They were married for 53 years. Together they owned and operated a farm NW of Elgin. Kenneth was also employed at St. Mary’s hospital in the Maintenance department and later as a Security officer. Kenneth was a member of the Masons Chapter in Elgin. He enjoyed farming, fishing, flying, hosting events for family and friends. He enjoyed many large gatherings on the Mayo lawns supplying sweet corn picnics for the Sisters of St. Francis, friends and coworkers. Kenneth was a kind, gentle and gracious man. He was quick witted to put a smile on your face with a joke or a good word. He will be missed by his family who loved him dearly and his many friends. Preceding Kenneth in death was his wife of 53 years Esther LeVan (Nov 20 1931-April 13 2005) His oldest son David (June 1, 1953-October 4, 1991). Brother LeRoy LeVan and Sister Velma Gray. Survivors include his life partner Darlene Guimond. His family is eternally grateful for the love, care and support Kenneth received from Darlene over the past 14 years. His life was truly blessed to have you in it. Sons Richard (Brenda), Bruce (Jane), William of Elgin and Todd (Norma) of San Antonio, Texas; Daughters Diane (Louie) Meyers of Elgin and Julie (Jerome) Walch of Rochester. 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and 1 brother Verlynn LeVan.
