Larry was born on October 2, 1954 in Wabasha to Logan and Marilyn (Ryan) Petit of
musical roots originated.
After graduating from Plainview High School in 1972, he worked at the All American
Coop in Elgin and Soundworld in Rochester. Spurred by his love for music, fix-it
nature, and outgoing attitude, he enrolled at Red Wing Technical School for musical
instrument repair, which lead to his first business, Petit Electronics. During his nights
and weekends, Larry played for several bands including but not limited to Willow Lane,
Night Shift, American Flyer, Booker Mini Band and the Reunion Band. In 1999 he
founded Petit Music, which is to this day one of the most influential piano stores in the
region. Larry was also very beneficial to the community as a member of the Booker
Mini Foundation. He proudly called Faith United Methodist Church his home church. In
his downtime, he enjoyed hunting, camping, boating, and listening to music.
Larry is survived by his father and step mother, Logan and Lu Petit of Plainview.
Children; Adam (Rachel) Petit of Forest City, NC and Natalie (Joseph) Berres of
Rosemount, MN. One grandson; Isaac Petit. Six sisters, June (Don) Tlougan of St.
Charles, MN, Mary (Steve) Motske of Huntington Beach, CA, Susan Niesen of Elgin,
MN, Rita (Edward) Schultz of Rochester, MN, Margaret (Dr. William)Marshall of
Rochester, MN and Brenda Petit of Simpson, MN. Five brothers; Joseph (Nancy) Petit,
Patrick (Diane) Petit, Robert (Barb) Petit, Bernard Petit all of Plainview, and Mark
(Colleen) Petit of Rochester, MN.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn (Ryan) Petit, and his brother, John
Petit.
The funeral service will be Friday, September 6, 11AM at Faith United Methodist
Church in Eyota with Rev. Mark Woodward officiating. The visitation is Thursday, 4-
8PM at the Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and one hour prior to the service
at the church on Friday.
On Sunday the Booker Mini Foundation will host a fundraiser for Larry at the Wicked
Moose in Rochester from 3PM – 10PM. Please attend and give Larry the party he
wanted.
