Laura L. Nolan 91, of Plainview, died Sunday morning January 12, 2014 at St. Isidore Health Center.
graduated in 1940 from Oliver Ames High School in Easton, MA. On February 22, 1941 she married
John P. Nolan also of Easton. They became parents to seven children. They were later divorced.
In 1952 Laura and John moved across the country to Hermosa Beach, CA. Laura would forever
think of the South Bay beach area of southern California as home. Upon retirement in 1990 Laura
relocated to Murrieta CA to settle into her brand new home and live near her daughter Laura. In
2007 she moved to join her daughter and her family in Plainview MN.
Laura loved books and read extensively. Her favorites were biographies, US history, and reference
works. She leaves an impressive library. Visiting libraries, museums, and historical sites were
favorite pastimes. She was a skilled knitter of beautiful sweaters, afghans, and baby blankets and
sweater sets. She loved trying new patterns and using beautiful yarns. Laura always owned at least
one dog or cat and loved watching birds in the wild or at feeders.
Laura worked as a waitress at many fine restaurants in Southern California. She particularly enjoyed
her time at the landmark Host International Restaurant at the Los Angeles International Airport. Here
she served as captain of the wait staff, developed wait procedures, and designed uniforms. She
enjoyed meeting the many dignitaries, celebrities, and world travelers that dined there. She finished
her career as a bookkeeper in the restaurant industry.
Laura stayed active in retirement. She learned to play the piano, was a member of the garden club,
Wet Hens, art association and Newcomers Club, and was active in civic affairs and politics. She
loved getting together with her large family, and was greatly interested in the activities and
accomplishments of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Laura is survived by her seven children: John Nolan, Hermosa Beach, CA, Paul (Ujit) Nolan,
Thailand, Terry Nolan, Torrance, CA, Laura Cordova, Plainview, MN, Rod Nolan, Portland, OR,
Dolores (Chuck) Biggerstaff, Flagstaff, AZ, and Kevin Nolan, El Segundo, CA; 17 grandchildren, 25
great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandson; her sister Pauline (John) Krish, Southport, NC,
and her brother Ronald (Rose) Buck of South Easton, MA.; several cousins and many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved sister Martha Tufts.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of St.Isidore’s Health Center for the wonderful,
compassionate care they gave Laura and the tremendous support they gave her family.
