Prairie in Plainview.Logan Petit, 96, died Friday, June 12, 2015, at St. Isidore Health Center of Greenwood Logan Nicholas Petit was born August 16, 1918 to Leo and Gladys (Wood) Petit at the home farm in Wabasha County, Plainview Township. He attended rural Six Oaks School and graduated from Plainview High School in 1936. On October 7, 1940 Logan married Marilyn E. Ryan at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview. They farmed South of Plainview. Born to them were 7 sons and 6 daughters. Logan was a member of the Six Oaks school board and later of the Plainview consolidated board of education for 6 years. He was a member of the Quincy Township board for 4 years and was active in organizing rural people to receive electric power through R.E.A. Rural Electrification. He was very interested in family life and farming interests and was active in organizing The Farmers Union in Wabasha County, later becoming president of NFO in Olmsted County for 12 years. Logan was a member of Democratic Party, and served as county chairman for 4 years. He became a third degree member of the Plainview Council of the Knights of Columbus in 1950. Logan and Marilyn organized “Petit’s Swing Band” in 1963 which was active for 36 years, playing for Ballroom dancing, fraternal clubs, parades, Polka Masses, nursing homes in Minnesota and Arizona. They were members of the American Federation of Musicians. Logan and Marilyn celebrated there 60th wedding anniversary October 7th, 2000 with family and friends. On August 31st, 2001, Marilyn passed to her eternal rest. On June 21, 2003, Logan was united in marriage to Luvern Derosier  at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview. Logan is survived by his wife Luvern of Plainview; children, June (Donald) Tlougan of St. Charles, Joseph (Nancy) Petit of Plainview, Mary (Steve) Motske of Huntington Beach, CA, Patrick (Diane) Petit of Plainview, Rita (Edward) Schultz of Rochester, Margaret (Dr. William) Marshall of Rochester, Robert (Barbara) Petit of Plainview, Bernard of Plainview, Brenda Petit of Simpson and Mark (Colleen) Petit of Rochester; 28 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Harold Petit of Plainview. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marilyn, children, John, Lawrence and Susan, and 1 sister, Vera Walch. Funeral Mass is Wednesday, June 17, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at St. Joachim’s Catholic in Plainview with Father Robert Meyer officiating. Burial is at the St. Joachim’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, 4-8 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
