Lorinda “Linda” Phipps
The funeral for Lorinda “Linda” Phipps will be Thursday, January 19, 11:00 am at
Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin, with the Rev. Terrill Bramstedt officiating. Burial
will be in the Oakhill Cemetery in Viola.
Mrs. Phipps, 92 died Saturday, January 14th at Cottagewood Senior Living in
Rochester, MN.
Born May 4, 1924 at Willow Creek, Minnesota, Lorinda was the daughter of Leo
and Rosa (Kietzer) Schwanke. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s
Lutheran Church, Willow Creek. On November 15th, 1942, Lorinda married Warren
Phipps and together they raised 6 children while living in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Lorinda was first and foremost a devoted mother and wife. She was very well known
for cake decorating. Many a person in the greater Elgin area either called upon her
services as a cake decorator or was the recipient of at least one or more of her
cakes. Lorinda was also an accomplished quilter making many for her family.
Lorinda was a 4-H leader in Walworth County, WI and Olmsted County. Lorinda had
a strong faith in God and her church. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran
Church, Elgin and involved with the Evening Ladies Aid holding many offices. She
was also a member of the Viola Gopher Gals. In 1988, she and Warren were
honored as the King and Queen of Viola Gopher Count.
Lorinda is survived by her children Garry (Paula), Oostburg, WI, Rodney (Cindy),
Omaha, NE, Keith (Chris), Stevensville, MT, David (Sheryl), Larchwood, IA, Ricky
(Rose), Panora, IA and Lori (Scott) Pierce, Decorah, IA. She is also survived by her
15 grandchildren: Paige, Christian, Justin, Mara, Ben, Anne, Jenny, Eric, Michael,
Joshua, Jeremy, Nichole, Jered, Breanne and Bryce. She is further survived by 22
great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 sisters; Verona Roberts, Viola Morrison
and Jane Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her husband Warren, her sisters LuVerna
, Violet and Edna.

Clayton, and her grandson Matthew.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 18, 5-7 pm at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home
in Plainview and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
