The funeral for Lucille J. Gruhlke will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 12 at Peace United Church of Christ in Rochester with Pastor Beth Rogers officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Viola. Mrs. Gruhlke, 96, of Eyota, a homemaker, died July 5, 2018 at Samaritan Bethany in Rochester. Lucille J. Hammel was born May 17, 1922 in Viola Township to Carl and Rose (Uthke) Hammel. She lived on the family farm until her marriage. She married Ellsworth Gruhlke on November 27, 1939 in Garnavillo, Iowa. They lived all their married life on their farm north of Eyota. Lucille was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and was a member of the Senior Saints. She loved flowers, playing cards, quilting, crocheting and knitted pray shawl’ s for Peace Church. She and Ellsworth were the King and Queen of the Viola Gopher Count in 1981. Her husband Ellsworth died January 12, 1999. Lucille is survived by her son Leroy Gruhlke of Eyota; two grandchildren, Michelle (Steve) Rovelstad of Eyota and John (Peggy) Gruhlke of Eyota; three great-grandchildren, Andrew and Alex Gruhlke and Elizabeth Rovelstad; one sister, Doris Baier of Byron and two brothers, Leo (Eunice) Hammel of Byron and David (Gladys) Hammel of Elba. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Judy Gruhlke, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Visitation is Wednesday, July 11, 5-7 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
