Mary Agnes Olson, 88 of Plainview, died peacefully at Parkside Elder Care on Feb.
22, 2016. Her family is grateful that her daughter Jean was at her side when she
passed away. Her family also is appreciative of the loving care she received at
Parkside.
Mary was born February 20, 1928, to Thomas and Agnes Wagner McGrath in Zumbro
Township, Wabasha County, Minnesota. She grew up in Middle Creek Valley, north of
Plainview, where they had a family farm. She married Franklin L. Olson, of Plainview
on April 8, 1947. Frank liked to tell the story of how they first met on the school bus
on their way to school in Plainview.
Frank and Mary resided in Millville, MN, where they owned Millville Oil Company. They
also owned and operated a school bus company driving busses for Elgin-Millville
Schools. After selling their business in Millville, they resided in Plainview where Mary
started her own successful business. She owned and managed Olson Embroidery for
30 years. Mary was a talented seamstress and also enjoyed playing cards, going on
Sunday drives with Frank, and spending time with her family. She was a member of
St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in West Albany and St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in
Plainview.
Mary is survived by her husband, Frank, of 69 years; children, David (Doris) Olson of
Plainview; Jean (Bob) Lyons of Plainview, Darlene (Steve) Richardson of Rochester;
Donald (Kathy) Olson of Plainview; Nancy (Bob) Gessner of Hastings; daughter-in-law,
Sara (wife of the late Frank Jr.) of Plainview; 12 grandchildren Bryan, Brenden,
Bridget, Jed, Sara, Kyle, Mike, Mary, Nick, Chad, Andrea, Jay; 16 great-grandchildren;
sisters, Irene Marshman, and Katherine Kerrins; sister-in-law Oma McGrath.
She is preceded in death by her son Franklin Jr. and an infant son, Ronald; her
parents; and brothers, Gerald, Lavern, Peter, Maurice and Francis Patrick; and sister,
Margaret Henry.
Memorials will be donated to St. Joachim’s cemetery fund and Alzheimer's research.

Funeral Mass is Saturday, March 5 at 11 a.m. at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in
Plainview with Father William Becker officiating. Burial is at the St. Joachim's Catholic
Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, March 4, 5-8 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in
Plainview and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
