Mavis I. Wehrs, 94 of Kasson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 17th at her home surrounded by family.
Mavis was born August 19, 1929, in Rochester Township to August and Eleanor (Tvedt) Molde. After high school Mavis worked a variety of jobs. She met her husband, Milton Wehrs at a dance at the old Armory in Rochester. They were married on July 22, 1948, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Rock Dell, MN. They bought a farm in Elgin, MN and farmed together until 1977. They purchased a Coast-to-Coast Hardware store in St. Charles and operated the store until 1986. Mavis then worked retail for several years until she retired. Mavis and Milton celebrated 72 years together.
Mavis enjoyed old-time music, dancing, sewing, quilting, and baking for her family, especially her strawberry torts! She loved meeting new people. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage.
Mavis is survived by her three sons, Paul (Ann) of Janesville, MN; Jim (Diane) of Lakeville, MN; Leonard of Rochester, MN; three daughters, Sandy Evans (Larry) of Kasson, MN; Peg Cowart (Jon) of Apple Valley, MN; and Joy Peterson (Mark) of Rochester, MN. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death, by her husband, Milton, an infant son, Maynard, her sister, Margaret Andreason, of Byron, MN, her brother, Raymond Molde, of Rochester, MN, and sister, Barbara Hinck, of Winona, MN.
A funeral service to celebrate Mavis’ life will be held Tuesday, December 26th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Eyota, MN with Pastor Jon Vollrath officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral ceremony. The burial will be at the Elgin Cemetery.
