Melvin David Harnack

Melvin David Harnack was born December 30, 1943 in Elgin to Melvin and Dorathea (Woodward) Harnack. The family moved to Eyota in 1955. Melvin graduated from Dover-Eyota High School in 1961 and then attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. On May 8, 1968, he married Janice May Stevens at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. They made there home in Eyota. In 1963 he joined the union and worked construction until he started his own construction company, Mel Harnack Construction in 1969. In 1997 he started working with his son, Scott Harnack Landscaping, until retiring in 2012 to enjoy life with his kids and grand kids. Melvin enjoyed fishing, woodworking and shooting pool. He is survived by his wife Janice of Eyota; children, Kim Harnack, Scott (Gina) Harnack and Veronica (Mike) Salerno all of Eyota; five grandchildren and five step grandchildren; one sister, Patricia (Joe) Heins of Eyota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Dorathea Harnack. Funeral service is Monday, March 9, 11:00 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota with Rev. Mark Woodward officiating. Burial is at the Elgin Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday 5-8 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
