Merle was born on November 8, 1944, to Evan and Violet (Walters) Burdick, where he
grew up on the family farm in Quincy Township. He married Linda Wild on August 6,
1966, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Eyota, MN. Merle and Linda have made their
home and raised their family in Plainview.
Merle was in the Navy for six years, discharging in 1967. He then co-owned Burdick
Trucking with his father from 1969 until 1980, after which time he was hired as a
Wabasha County Road Maintenance employee, where he later retired in 2005.
Merle was happiest when he was fishing, hunting, camping, or spending time with
family.
Survivors include his wife, Linda and their four children, Brenda (Garry) Miller of
Rossville, IL; Kim (Jason) Severson of Eyota, MN; Kent (Amy) Burdick of Elgin, MN; and
Kurt (Kristi) Burdick of Plainview, MN, as well as nine grandchildren, Brittany and Aaron
Miller; Katie and Kiah Severson; Evan and Ben Burdick; and Ava, Eve, and Blake
Burdick. Merle is also survived by three sisters, Deanna (Dave) Husman of Minnesota
City, Jan (Glen) Luehmann of Dodge Center, and Jean Clark of Aplington, Iowa
Merle was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Funeral services with Military Rights will be held on Friday, July 11 at 11 a.m. at
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church
in Plainview.
