member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Sioux Tribe.
He graduated from Minnetonka High School. Myron joined the U.S. Army in
September, 1962 and served two years in Germany and one year in White Sands,
NM, and was discharged in September, 1965. He then attended the Minneapolis
Police Academy, and worked for the Minneapolis Police Department 3rd and 5th
Precinct. Through his career, he served in the first MN Swat Team, the Department
of Homicide, Department of Narcotics, Department of Child Sex Crimes and the
Department of Internal Affairs. He received the Medal of Valor. Myron’s career as a
Minneapolis police officer was his dream job and he stated often, “There was not a
day I didn’t enjoy going to work.” He retired from the police department in 1995.
In 2003, he moved to Rochester and worked for Rochester City Delivery (RCD) and
is currently employed by Lanier Parking Ramp, downtown Rochester. Myron was an
avid golfer and enjoyed the Minnesota Twins, Timberwolves and Gophers. Myron
loved his cars.
He is survived by his children; Ronald (Barb) Schliesman of Montrose, MN; Nicholas
(Robin) Schliesman of Burnsville, MN; and Stephanie (Mathew) Schliesman of
Duluth, MN; six grandchildren; one sister, Luella Tesch of Milbank, SD; his best
friend; Grady McCorkel and The love of his Life, his fiancee’ Betty Tesch also
survives.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Schliesman and one sister,
Delores Heitla.
There will be no funeral service. A burial graveside service will be conducted by
Connor Cabalka, of the Calvary Evangelical Free Church, Rochester MN, at 11:30 a.
m. Tuesday, September 10, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
