Nina Adelaide (Nichols) Higgins, 103, died Monday, September 2, 2019 at Whitewater Health Services in St. Charles. Nina was born in Oronoco Township on April 11, 1916 to Arthur and Addie (Clark) Nichols. On March 21, 1936 she married Ernest Higgins in Rochester. They lived for a short time on a farm near Eyota and then moved into Eyota. Nina will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. She grew up on a farm and told how she loved working with her “Dad”. She enjoyed gardening, playing games and telling jokes. Nina loved her Lord and was looking forward to meeting Ernie and dancing with him on the “Golden Streets”. She studied her Bible faithfully and loved to discuss the scriptures. Nina and Ernie were dedicated charter members of the Grace Community Church of Eyota. Nina is survived by her children; Dolores (Jack) Rother of Eyota, LeRoy (Mary) Higgins of Eyota, Randy (Mavis) Higgins of Dodge Center; daughter-in-law Carol Higgins of Rochester; son-in-law Richard Skillestad of Eyota; sister-in- law Bessie Nichols of Rochester; 13 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 6 great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernest, one son Duane, one daughter LaVonne Skillestad, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral service is Friday, September 6, 11:00 a.m. at Grace Community Church in Eyota with Pastor Mark Young officiating. Burial is at Oak Grove Cemetery, Eyota. Visitation is Thursday, 4-7 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
