Norman Franklin Grethen , 78, went home  to his Lord and Savior on Thursday March 12, 2015. He was born near Mallard, Iowa and moved to the Eyota area when he was 15. He graduated from Eyota High School and attended college in Rochester and North Central College in Illinois where he enjoyed singing in a men’s Quartet. In 1958 he married Patricia Higgins in Eyota and together they raised two children. Norm had owned and operated a Tastee Freez in Chatfield, Oasis Drive Inn in St. Charles and the Duet Restaurant in Minneapolis. He also was employed at the Top Shop in Rochester as an installer. In retirement he drove cars for Rochester Auto Auction and other dealerships, and ushered at Mayo Civic Center. He was a very active member of the Grace Community Church in Eyota. Norm loved spending time at his cabin in Northern Minnesota with his wife and riding his BMW motorcycles. But his greatest pleasure was being with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Pat of Eyota; two children, Kim (Dan Fox) of Rochester, Sean (Julie) Grethen of Rochester; four grandchildren, Jackie (Chad) Peterson, Kyle Fitzpatrick, Alexis and Noah Grethen; three great grandchildren, Jadin, Nora and Ella Peterson; three brothers, Dennis (JoAnn) Grethen of Eyota, Eugene Grethen of Drexel, NC., Kenneth (DJ) Grethen of Eddy, Texas; two sisters, Carole (Lyman) Felstead of Rochester and Sonja Root of Lorena, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dean, and three children. Funeral service is Tuesday, March 17, 2015, 11:00 am at Grace Community Church in Eyota with Rev. Mark Young officiating. Burial is at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Eyota. Visitation is Monday, 5-8 pm at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
