Orville Marvin Folkert

d. December 12, 2014

on December 12, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at St. Elizabeth’s Healthcare in Wabasha, Minnesota after a fall at Orville was born to John and Marie (Karsten) Folkert on December 9th, 1921 in rural Plainview.  He attended the Giem Country School through 8th grade.  From 1941 – 1943 he served in World War II in the Philippines. Upon returning home from his tour of duty he worked on the family farm.  On September 21, 1950 he married Beverly Schmiedeberg at the Immanuel Lutheran church in Plainview. Together they made their home in rural Plainview and raised four children. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview and served as a rural school board member for a number of years until the rural schools in the area closed. Orville had a love of the land and farmed his entire life in rural Plainview.  In 1987, Orville and Beverly decided to retire and moved to ‘town’ Plainview and wintered in Florida for many years meeting new friends while playing shuffleboard.  Although he was retired he never truly left the farm, continuing to help out with the fall harvest, combining and chisel plowing until the young age of 91 when he finally determined it would be his last year to climb into the big tractors.   Although he loved farming there was nothing more important to him than Beverly and his family.  He also loved playing cards and the best way to play Euchre was to be his partner because he loved to win.  All of his children, their spouses and many of his grandchildren have learned to play.  There was never a family celebration without a deck of cards. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverly of Plainview; four children, Karen Folkert of Bloomington, Gary (Carla) Folkert of Elgin, Wayne (Anna) Folkert of Plainview, and Janine (Bruce) Jorgenson of Wabasha; nine grandchildren and three great- grandchildren; two sisters Laurine Senst of Plainview and Jeanette (Louie) Johnson of Alexandria. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Rueben and Delvin and one sisters, Verna Baum. There will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family burial will be Tuesday, December 16 at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview with Rev. Terrill Bramstedt officiating. Schad & Zabel Funeral Home, Plainview, 57 3rd ST SW, Plainview, MN, 55964
