Patricia A. Barnes, age 92, passed away June 15, 2025, at Green Prairie Senior Living in Plainview. Pat was born November 3, 1932, in Keokuk, Iowa to Thomas and Ruth (Barnes) Knobbs.
She grew up in Montrose, Iowa and graduated from Montrose High School in 1950, and worked at various jobs until her marriage. Pat married David A. Barnes, February 27, 1954, in Keokuk, Iowa. They made their home in Fort Madison, Iowa where they were both employed at Shaeffer Pen Company in Fort Madison.
Pat was also a homemaker and raised five children who were all born in Fort Madison. In 1966, the family moved to Plainview upon Mr. Barnes, employment at IBM in Rochester.
Pat was employed at the local Rexall drug store in Plainview for a few years, then spent 25 years working for the Plainview Community School District, retiring in 1998. Mr. Barnes passed away January 11, 2000.
Pat loved working for the school district and could be seen volunteering at many events. She continued to volunteer after retirement for many years at various church and town events and served on the library board for a time. Pat was honored to have been chosen Plainview’s Corn on the Cob Days Queen in 2014, alongside her good friend, King Paul Aarsvold.
In her later years, Pat enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren, shopping, eating out, and especially her pets. Pat was never without a canine companion by her side. She also loved to do crossword puzzles until her eyesight no longer allowed. Pat was a faithful patron of the local library as well. She also enjoyed her time at Green Prairie, having moved there just before her 90th birthday.
Pat is survived by her children; Jeff (Traci) and Dennis, both of Wabasha, and Judy Dummermuth of Sumner, Iowa. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; daughter- in -laws, Peggy (Vic) Ching and Patty Barnes, and many beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, David S. and William Barnes; son-in law, Jay Dummermuth, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
Pat cherished her years in Plainview and loved being part of the community. The family would like to thank Green Prairie Place and Mayo Hospice for their love and care for Pat during her illness and passing.

Funeral service is Tuesday, June 24, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. The visitation is Tuesday, one hour prior, to the service at the church. The service will be live streamed.
