Richard (Rich) Klees, 60, died at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, Tuesday, March 24, 2015, surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer. Rich was born April 22, 1954 in Wabasha to Francis and Dorothy Klees. He attended Plainview and Wabasha Schools and graduated from Wabasha High School in 1972. On October 18, 1975 he married Paulette Evers at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. They made Plainview their home. Rich worked hard all his life.  He worked for Lakeside Packing; Bud Meyer Trucking; then for 38 years, under the same roof, Rich worked for the Farm Implement Dealerships of Kruger Implement, Gehrts, Goode & Kobey Implement, Kobey Implement, and was currently employed by Minnesota Ag Group in Plainview. Rich became a member of the Plainview Volunteer Fire Department in 1979 and rose through the ranks to become Chief for 12 years. He retired in 2009 after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview and the Knights of Columbus. Rich was a kind, loving, common sense guy who enjoyed his family and friends, especially the grandkids. He liked spending time in the woods, gardening, driving his Jeep and 4-wheeling. Rich is survived by his wife, Paulette of Plainview; children, Gina (Travis) Ihrke of Plainview, Tom (Maija) Klees of Rochester and Matt (Miranda) Klees of Lake City; grandchildren, Alese and Gavin Ihrke and Owen and Ian Klees; his mother, Dorothy Klees of Rochester; mother-in-law, Bernice Evers of Wabasha; sisters, Ruth (Arnie) Higgins of Rochester and Joan (Gary) Snider of Richfield; brother, Mike Klees of Lansing, Iowa; sister-in-law, Mary Klees of Wabasha. He is preceded in death by his father, Francis; brother, Dan; brother-in-law, Ken Freese and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Klees. Funeral Mass is Saturday, March 28, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Plainview with Father William Becker and Father Robert Meyer officiating. Burial is at St. Joachim’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, 4-8 p.m. at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
