Rita Gengler

Rita Marie (Hager) Gengler, 85, Plainview, MN passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025, peacefully, after injuries resulting from a fall.

She was born in Wabasha, MN on August 10, 1940 to Bernard and Evelyn Hager and raised on a farm near Kellogg. Rita married John Gengler on February 4, 1961. They spent all their married years on the farm John was raised on in rural Plainview. They farmed and raised four children together.

Rita's biggest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved hummingbirds, gardening, baking, cooking, garage sales, and so much more. She volunteered over 17 years for Bundles of Love, an organization that collects and donates infant necessities to Minnesota families in need. Her favorite items to find at garage sales were onesies for the baby bundles.

Rita is survived by her loving family, husband John; daughters Julie (Bryan) Ehmke and Lori (Dennis) Langen; sons, Mark (Bobbi) Gengler and Scott (Pam) Gengler; grandchildren, Bri (Bryan) Schneider, Blair (Hayley) Ehmke, Andrea (Paul) Greenwood, Kirsten Langen (David Boudreau), Jarod Gengler, Caitlyn (Joe) Heimerl, Jessica (Mike) Fogelson, Brittney Gengler (PJ Peng), Mackenzie (Brady) Munroe; great grandchildren Wesley, Waverly, Harlow, Natalie, Shiloh, Gunner, Chase, Haylee, Braylon, Rowan, Peyton, Aria, and Raegan.

Rita also enjoyed many more loving family members and friends.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Joachim Catholic Church (900 W Broadway, Plainview, MN 55964) at 11:00 am Friday, September 19, 2025 with a visitation on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Schad and Zabel Funeral Home (57 3rd Street SW, Plainview, MN 55964) and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the St. Joachim Catholic Church Cemetery. A lunch will follow at St. Joachim.
